Just Breathe – Quilt
This quilt was created in the Fall 2015 Semester, originally as a texture study for my 2D design course at Weber State University. It is 26″ x 34″ in size, and is intricately quilted. The original design was a watercolor painting (accentuated textures done in sharpie), which I digitally printed onto 100% quilting cotton fabric, and then quilted with 2 layers of Warm & Natural batting for optimum stability when hung. The quilting utilized monofilament thread, silver metallic thread, as well as silver metallic yarn adorning the edges of the woman’s hair. Finally, the quilt was bound with a double french fold binding, and machine bound using a domestic machine blanket stitch, in black blending thread. The backing is a vibrant, coral Kona quilting cotton. This quilt was also accepted into the Student Fall Art Exhibition at the Weber State University Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery.
This quilt pushed many creative boundaries for me which inspired me as an artist. I hope that the final owner of this quilt will look at it and find peace and solace. I want it to be a simple reminder for anyone who views it to just slow down, take a step back, and just breathe.
