Notice:
Be sure to verify not only the dates of the session you choose, but the time as well (MST). This is to provide the most flexibility for the classes across all time zones. Last year, my Shimmering Symphony class had students as far away as Norway! But like I mentioned in the video, if not all the class sessions work for your schedule, you should still sign up. You’ll have access to the recorded live videos and I will be ready to answer questions whenever you are ready to ask them which means you MUST have a Facebook account to attend these classes.
We had such a wonderful time in class last year and I am really really looking forward to teaching this class again! I know that the Graffiti Quilting class will be just as fun! I have really loved teaching quilting these last few years, and I really hope that I will be able to continue teaching for a long time- whether it is face to face, or more likely, online like this! If you’re as excited as I am, and ready to sign up for either (or both) of these classes, just click the class titles below!

Finally, I want to say THANK YOU to the Sponsors of these classes. These sponsors have been so supportive to me over the course of my quilting career:
The Warm Company, they make the most DIVINE batting I have ever used!
The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson, Alex has always been such an amazing supporter of my work! Her show is super entertaining as well as informative.
MyNotions.com, they produce awesome products that make my quilting experience even better. My favorite product is their Quilt Basting Spray.
Handi Quilter, who makes THE most comfortable and classy quilting machine I have ever used.
Swarovski Crystal Company c/o Beadsfactory.com, because let’s be honest, no quilt is complete without a little BLING!!!
Sulky Threads, they have such a WONDERFUL selection of threads! It’s one thing to be good at quilting, but its a whole other thing to find thread that only enhances your quilting. Sulky thread does this!
I can’t wait to see ya’ll in class! But hurry and register now, because it’s on sale at $299, but will go up to the regular price of $349 exactly one week before the class actually starts. If you have any questions, please just post them in the comments section below!
If you’re still not quite sure if this format is for you, please take a moment to read over some of my student’s reviews from last year’s class:
See what I mean?? We had such a blast year, and I know that this year is going to be awesome too! Check out some of the finished quilts that my students made:
Jerre’s Quilt took home a First Place Ribbon, as well as Best in Show!
Diane’s Quilt also hung in a quilt show
Linda decided to do a rich, dark background fill which turned out AMAZING.
Marianne (my Norwegian gal) decided to do hers in lots of different colors, and she NAILED the “Karlee Curls”.
and Dixie chose a blue and purple color scheme for her quilt. I love the cool colors.
Be great to each other!

Should I take this class if I have only quilted 2 quilts on my LA? I am a true beginner and have not mastered FMQ yet.
Hi Cindy! I saw that you signed up. This makes me so happy! I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how well you do. I have taught students who have been quilting for only 3 days all the way up to almost 40 years. You definitely don’t need to be a free-motion master to take this class. In fact, these classes are great skill builders to help you get well on your way to becoming a free-motion master. 🙂

Hi Karlee
Sorry, I have another question. I’m assuming it is possible to watch the live feeds more than once or at a later date/time if one is not able to watch live?
Also how long after each live feed or the course will you still be available for support. Was interested in joining your class last year but as I was travelling for some of the time during it, I was put off. Again I will be travelling for some of your the course this year.
I’m interested in Shimmering Symphony.
Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris! You’ll have access to watch the live videos any time throughout the 8 weeks that it is convenient for you (after the live class has been filmed, of course.) Not only that, the group will stay open for at least 3 additional months after the class has ended. My goal is to make sure that everyone finishes the quilt, whether it takes 8 weeks or 5 months. 🙂 So don’t worry, I will be here when you need me, even if you are not able to watch the sessions as they are actually live.

Hi Karlee
Are you able to provide postage costs to UK? I note Carolyn Trezona’s comments about leaving out weighty extras in the package?
Chris
Hi Chris! Actually, I just cover the shipping for the goodies and prizes, regardless of where you are in the world. So, as long as you are confident that the goods will make it to you without too much trouble with your country’s post, no need to worry about shipping costs. Hopefully that makes sense. I try to keep the goodies cost effective, but I also factor in the shipping costs when pricing my classes.
-Karlee
Hi Karlee, I would love to join in with your classes. I am in South Africa and was wondering if you might have a special price leaving out the goodies therefore saving on shipping which is costly to SA not to mention our erratic postal system! I am very keen to take a class with you.
Hi Carolyn! I think we could work something out. 🙂 Which class were you interested in taking? Graffiti Quilting or Shimmering Symphony?
Hi Karlee,
I would like to sign up for the Shimmering Symphony class beginning May 19. I did not see any directions to actually sign up. Did I overlook them? Do I need to pay in full when I sign up or may I pay in three monthly payments, concluding before the class starts? I await your directions and thank you in advance for your help.
Bev Paluska
Hi Bev! You can simply click on the photo of the quilt, or the blue link of the title of the class, and that will take you to the product page where you can register for the class. Or, even easier, you can use this link:

See you in class! 🙂

As far as skill levels go, which course would you recommend taking first? What prerequisite skills are necessary? Can a relative beginner be successful at this? And can both of these be done by hand, or are the done by machine? I so want to do this!!
Hi Karen! Great question. I would say that Graffiti Quilting may be a slightly higher skill level than Shimmering Symphony, only because Graffiti Quilting is more free-form than Shimmering Symphony, which uses a pattern. But, they are both GREAT classes to get your feet wet with free-motion quilting. Because these classes are composition based, you could technically do the quilting by hand, but it would be very time consuming. But I do believe a relative beginning would be successful at either of these classes. I would just recommend getting acquainted with the free-motion set-up of whatever machine you plan to use, whether it is a quilting machine or a domestic sewing machine. I hope to see you in class! If you have any other questions, please just let me know. 🙂
Hello Karlee,
I’m interested in your graffiti quilting class. My question relates to stitch regulators and the lack thereof. Will i be able to apply your technique and lessons utilizing my basic Gammill Classic?
Thanks, Rachel
Hi Rachel!
Absolutely! You do not need a stitch regulator to have a successful class. The class is much more focused on the design aspects and the paths that you stitch things, and much less about stitch length. As long as you are fairly comfortable with whatever machine you plan to use, you will do just fine! 🙂
-Karlee
Karlee to do this class do you have to have a long arm quilting machine or can it be done on a regular sewing machine?
Hi Rita! It can be done on a regular sewing machine as long as you can drop the feed dogs and do free-motion quilting. You will also want to make sure that you have a free-motion quilting foot for your machine. If you aren’t sure, contact the manufacturer of the machine you plan to use. 🙂
Karlee, I have all that I have a Bernina Quiter’s sewing machine. The feed dog drops, I have an assortment of quilting feet including the free motion one. Most of my piecing and quilting I do by hand but I have wanted to do the piano one for my daughter ever since the first time I saw it. I am so afraid of not being able to do this well because I don’t have much machine quilting practice. What do you think?
I think you will be pleasantly surprised at just how approachable this project will be. When I created the original quilt, I had very very limited experience in free-motion quilting. I will break things down for you so that they are much simpler than the final quilt looks. And, if anything, if you are not happy with your quilt at the end of the class, you will be better armed with the skills to do it again. You’ll own the pattern so you can use it as many times as you want. 🙂 I really think you should take the class. It will be a great way to help you ease into free-motion machine quilting and get your feet wet. Also, the supplies are pretty small, so if you mess up, you won’t be out a bunch of money on supplies, which is nice. You can make your quilt fairly small, so that it won’t be a huge grandiose project to fret over and worry about. Look at it as a practice piece and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Karlee – How long are each of the sessions for the classes? Are they an hour each or longer?
They will be at least 2 hours each, but no more than 2.5 hours.
How do we join ? Hard to choose…..
Click on the title of the class you’d like to join and it will take you to the product page. From there, just choose the session you want to take and then checkout. 🙂
How much are these classes?
Hi Kathy! They are on sale for $299, and will be on sale until exactly one week before the class actually starts, and then they will go back to the regular price of $349. You can see the product page for each one of the classes here:
http://www.karleeporter.com/product-category/education/
Thank you!
Hi Karlee. Is this the price for each class or do you get both for $299? I love your work and have already purchased the Symphony pattern and have been working on it.
Hi Mary! The $299 price is for each type of class. But then that price includes all the sessions within the class that you sign up for. Hopefully that makes sense?
